Branch Description

We are active mature men from all professions including business, science, engineering, and education. SIR was founded in 1958 for the enjoyment of retired men.  The SIR organization has 114 branches with nearly 14,000 members in Northern California.

This Branch was founded on the belief that we could form a Branch dedicated to the social needs for retired men from all walks of life.

To that extent we have succeeded. We have formed and promoted a Branch that has spawned spin-off activities in Golf, Bridge, Bowling, Travel, Tennis, Singing, and Computers. All of these activities are managed by volunteers who are looking for something constructive to get involved in after retirement.

A charter was issued at the September, 1971 meeting of Branch 35 after six months of meeting on a probationary status. The first official meeting of MISSION TRAILS BRANCH was held at Pieracci’s Restaurant in Los Altos on March 16, 1971. The cost of lunch was $3.00 and drinks were $.75.

Our Luncheon meetings are well attended and professionally run; our food service has been very good. Luncheon cost have gone up but are still not bad – usually about $25.

We run our organization, which is somewhat like a small corporation on a twenty dollar yearly contribution from our members.

Our Membership Director took a close look at the “Active Members” numbers, made some typical adjustments for attrition and the like, and Trail Tips (our newsletter) was able to report that Active Members totaled around 340. Typical luncheon attendance is around 200.
